What Should a Personal Trainer Look Like?

Sunday, August 06, 2006

There are countless reasons for working with a personal trainer. But first you have your reasons, remember this is about you. So when you’re ready who would be the best trainer for me? So you go to the gym, a personal training studio or check out an ad for personal fitness training. What are the most important factors? Is it what the trainer looks like; is it their knowledge, experience, gender, education, certification or area of expertise?

I want to lose weight, walk up stairs without pain, relief from my constant back pain, feel better, slim and tone, to be buff, run a marathon, keep up with my Grandchildren, or look awesome on my wedding day.

I’ve heard people say “they can’t have any good trainers here; none of them are built like Arnold”. “That trainer is overweight, how can he or she help me?” “How can a man/woman (opposite sex) help me?” Does it really matter what the trainer looks like? I mean really? There are times when people don’t appear to fit their occupation. Does that mean they can’t do a really great job? No! So why would I choose a personal trainer based on appearances?
